Maintaining the computer design principle that the size of a computer and the price of a computer are continuing to fall as a result of advances being made in semiconductor technology, the computer chip-set for accessing the ROM in a computer system includes a peripheral control circuit, a boot-control circuit which generates a signal for enabling booting for controlling access to the ROM, and a switchover circuit with first, second and third I/O terminal, and where the boot-control circuit activates the boot-enable signal when the computer system is switched on, so that the ROM stored contents can be accessed and relocated into the main memory by the switchover circuit, at which point the boot-enable signal is deactivated.
