To expand flexible pipe ends, the pipe end is first passed over a relaxed spreader (8) as far as a limit stop. The spreader is expanded by the insertion of a cone (5), to force the spreader against the inner wall of the pipe. The fixed pipe is drawn over a one-piece expansion mandrel (11), with a bevel, and the expanded pipe is pushed automatically clear of the mandrel by peeling straps at pull straps.
