A rotating brush for a street cleaner has a ring of bristles with an elastic segmented construction which enables each segment (14) to adapt to the contour of the ground. It also enables the brush segments to sweep the debris up the inclined collection plate (51) and into the collection system. Each segment also flexes about a radial axis and is linked to adjacent segments by flexible connections (17).
