Finely time resolved sample luminescence measurement apparatus modulated the electromagnetic wave causing excitation. The detector is implemented as a photonic mixing device (PMD) which is electrically-modulated by the control unit, using the modulation of the excitation wave. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method, in which the intensity and duration of emitted light is detected, evaluated and calculated.
