Coarse fragmentation device for an aqueous polymer gel has two axially parallel rollers (11, 12) that rotate in opposite directions and define an intermediate roll slit (13) through which the polymer gel (10) can flow. In order to reduce fragmentation costs and to obtain a more uniformly fragmented polymer gel, one roller is designed as a cutting roller (11) that carries at least one cross-cutting element (15) with a cutting edge (17) that extends in the axial direction and one longitudinal cutting element (14) with a continuous cutting edge (18) that extends in the radial direction. The other roller is a mating roller (12).
