PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a switch mechanism for detecting a gear shift position. SOLUTION: This shift device for transmission consists of a selector switch mechanism 1 in which an electric detection means for detecting a gear shift position at each gear shift mode is provided in a part of a shift lever 9 for gear shift operation to detect switching operation between automatic gear shift mode and manual gear shift mode, a position sensor 2 which operates in accordance with the operation of the shift lever 9 to detect each position of P, R, N, D in an automatic gear shift mode condition, and a manual shift switch mechanism 3 composed of an acceleration switch or a deceleration switch detecting that the shift lever 9 is shifted onto either side of an acceleration position and a deceleration position in a manual gear shift mode condition. Either of the acceleration switch 3' and the deceleration switch 3 also serves as an N position switch contact of the position sensor 2 in automatic gear shift mode.
