PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorptive article such as a disposable diaper which is excellent in absorbing performance and shape-holding property of an absorber, made thin, and efficient and inexpensive in manufacture. SOLUTION: In the absorptive article comprising a surface sheet 2, a leakage- preventive sheet 3 and the absorber 4, the absorber 4 comprises a substantially longitudinal liquid absorbing and holding layer 43 containing a highly absorptive polymer 41 and/or fibrous components 42, the skin contacting surface side of the liquid absorbing and holding layer 43 and both edges in the longitudinal direction thereof are packaged by a nonwoven fabric 44, no mount is disposed on the skin contacting surface side of the liquid absorbing and holding layer 43, the nonwoven fabric is 7.5-15.0 g/m2 in surface weight, and the strength in the MD direction in a dry condition is >=10 N/25 mm, the strength in the MD direction in a wet condition is >=0.9 N/25 mm, and the nonwoven fabric has a hydrophilic area in a part to cover the skin contacting surface side of the liquid absorbing and holding layer.
