PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the efficient impression of a high frequency electromagnetic field without arranging slit in a mold and to obtain the high speed casting while using mold powder, in a method of controlling the solidification at the initial stage by impressing the high frequency electromagnetic field to molten steel in the mold. SOLUTION: At the upper part of a water-cooled copper mold 2, a ceramics member 3 whose inner wall shape is substantially the same as the water-cooled copper mold, and having electrically insulation, is disposed. Further, an inductor 4 for generating the high frequency electromagnetic field on the back surface of this ceramics member is disposed, and while impressing the high frequency electromagnetic field to the molten metal 6 in the mold with this inductor, the position of the molten metal surface 10 in the mold adding the mold powder 8 is controlled to the position of the above ceramics member. Furthermore, while oscillating the above ceramics member together with the water-cooled copper mold, the casting is executed. At this time, as the ceramics member, it is desirable to contain 22-90 wt.% BN and 4-48 wt.% AlN.
