PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace cover attaching and detaching apparatus capable of easily positioning a cover of a furnace in the case of mounting a removed cover at a furnace body in a band-like heat treating furnace. SOLUTION: In the furnace cover attaching and detaching apparatus for a heat treating furnace for continuously heat treating a band-like material, covers of the furnace divided into a plurality can be detached from the furnace body and be attached to the furnace body. In the case of temporarily placing the cover, legs for enabling self-standing at a predetermined distance from a floor surface of a temporary placing yard on a surface of a refractory material lined on the cover are respectively attached to the covers. Meanwhile, a guide groove is provided in the body. At the cover attaching or detaching time, the leg attached to the cover is attached along the groove.
