PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an erection method capable of erecting a steel column safely, very accurately, even if it is large, in a short erection time at a low cost by using a lightweight winch and traction device having excellent operability. SOLUTION: Notches 1c made in vertical directions positioned in advance at predetermined intervals in upper and lower steel columns and brackets 7 projected out externally are provided and, at the time of erection and plumbing of the steel columns, engaged fittings 6 are fitted and inserted to the notches 1c of the positioned upper and lower steel columns 1a and 1b and the upper and lower steel columns 1a and 1b are temporary fixed by temporary fittings, lever type hoists 3 are linked to brackets 7 engaged fittings 6, a chain 4 is tensioned by the lever type hoists 3, the upper steel column 1a is relatively raised through the engaged fittings 6, and any tilt of steel column is corrected in this erection and method for the steel column.
