PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for manufacturing optical fiber arrays, in which the productivity is drastically improved by merely using a simple jig. SOLUTION: The exposed state of optical fibers 10 is obtained by cutting the skin 11 on the free end side of a tape fiber 12 and moving the cut skin 11. The method is characterized by this exposed state in which the skin 11 dividedly cut on the free end is retained without being removed from the optical fibers 10 and in which a number of optical fibers 10 are restrained in a pitch- maintained state by means of the skin 11 during the machining. As a result, the plural optical fibers 10 in the exposed state, which used to be difficult to deal with, can be handled as if they were a single body with an accurate pitch maintained. Accordingly, the productivity of the optical fiber array 1 can be greatly improved.
