PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of the deficient rotation at the low and medium speed range of a combine harvester to cause the head loss by insufficient raising action and raking action in a conventional general-purpose combine harvester having rotational speed of the reel independent of the traveling speed of the combine harvester. SOLUTION: A standard mode and a falling mode are set in the raking reel of the general-purpose combine harvester to solve the above problems. In the standard mode, the rotational speed of the reel 2 is maintained to a nearly constant level in the low-speed range starting from zero rotation and changed synchronously with the change of the traveling speed in the medium and high speed range. In the falling mode, the reel is rotated at a speed comparable to the speed of the standard mode in the low-speed range and changed synchronously with the change of the traveling speed to a speed higher than that of the standard mode. At the maximum traveling speed, the rotational speed is changed to the same level in both modes.
