METHOD OF CREATING A FULL COLOR DISPLAY

A technique for using only two different color elements in a display to give a viewer the effect of a full color range output that would otherwise require the use of three different color elements, such as red, green and blue. In a particular embodiment a display is made up of a matrix of alternating red and green light-emitting or red and green passing filtering elements; when seen as a whole, the display can create the impression of a full-color depiction of text, graphics and/or photos. The brightness of each light-emitting or filtering element in the display is varied to bear a selected relationship to the brightness the point it represents in a full-color image would have if that point were to be seen through a long wave pass filter (for the red element) or short wave pass filter (for the green element).
