PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip-type surge absorber capable of improving the surge withstand. SOLUTION: In this chip-type surge absorber, though the arc current flows to basic parts 3a and 4a of discharge electrodes 3 and 4 in a state of spots in discharging the arc by the production of the surge voltage, the flow of the arc current can be diffused, as conductors 10 and 11 are mounted under the arc current flowing part and the discharge electrode basic end parts 3a and 4a are partially thickened to lower the electric resistance, which prevents the increase of the current concentration of the arc current flowing part, and the rise in the temperature. As a result, glass closure body 6 is not opened by the surge voltage, the durability to the surge voltage can be obtained, and the surge withstand voltage can be increased.
