PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the detection accuracy of an optical location detecting device composed of a light projecting element and a PSD. SOLUTION: In the optical location detecting device composed of the light projecting element 11 and the PSD 12, the two outputs of a photoelectric current from the PSD 12 are converted into voltages by current-voltage converting means 3a and 13b. A controlling means 14 for the drive of the light projecting element controls a light projecting element driving means 15 so that a higher voltage among the two voltages may be constant. The sum of the two outputs is obtained by an adder 16, the difference between the two outputs is obtained by a subtracter 17, and the difference/sum of the two outputs is obtained by the divider 18 to compute incident locations on the basis of the known chip size of the PSD 12.
