PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealant composition for liquid crystal display elements which is excellent in adhesion to a nematic liquid crystal surface, can shorten the production process by thermally curing the composition simultaneously with the sealing of a nematic liquid crystal, and gives a liquid crystal cell which is rich in reliabiliy of adhesion to a cell-constituting substrate, can exhibit a homogenous liquid crystal display function, and is excellent in long-time (longer than 1,000 h) seal reliability and durability of liquid crystal display function under high-humidity high-temperature conditions of 60 deg.C/saturated humidity of 95%. SOLUTION: This sealant composition comprises (1) 20-83.99 mass% epoxy resin, (2) 10-35 mass% latent epoxy-curing agent, (3) 5-50 mass% inorganic filler, (4) 1-20 mass% fine hydrophilic polymer particles having a solubility parameter (SP value) of 11.1-15 (cal/cm3)1/2, and 0.01-5 mass% cure accelerator.
