PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily achieve flattening of a prebuncher and consequently permit to lower the beam accelerating voltage and to miniaturize an accelerating tube. SOLUTION: For the charged particle accelerator so constructed that a single cavity prebuncher is integrally interposed between an electron gun and a buncher or between the electron gun and an accelerating cavity forming an accelerating tube of a regular part, a high-frequency electric field supplied to the prebuncher and a high-frequency electric field supplied on the side of the accelerating cavity are separately supplied by separate lines, a prebuncher block is formed in the form of a disk having an outer diameter greater than those of a buncher block and an accelerating cavity block, which are connected to the prebuncher block, a connector for high-frequency power supply is connected to the back side of the disk-like prebuncher block in parallel with the direction of a beam axis, and the accelerating modes of the prebuncher and the accelerating cavity side are set to TM02 and TM01, respectively.
