PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the defective fixing of an unfixed toner image caused by the transportation suspension of a paper sheet accompanying the suspension of an image forming operation in an image forming apparatus for continuous forms. SOLUTION: When the reception of printing data is completed and an image forming operation is suspended (steps S106 and S107), the transportation of continuous forms is also suspended accordingly, and a printing standby state is set (step S109). When the time Tw of the printing standby exceeds a prescribed value Ta (Y in a step S113), the suspended continuous forms are fed ahead and the unfixed toner image is fixed by a fixing device (steps S116 and 117). After fixing is completed (Y in a step S118), a reverse transportation of paper is performed to retreat the continuous forms and to restore the original printing standby (step S123).
