PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure discharge lamp, a high pressure discharge lamp lighting device and a lighting system in which a size of a whole length of the lamp is not affected by an adhesive border surface of a tube part and a small diameter cylinder part. SOLUTION: The high pressure discharge lamp is provided with an arc tube provided with a cylinder part 1a, a small diameter cylinder part 1b having a flange part TB adhered to an end surface T of the cylinder part, a pair of electrodes and a discharge medium; a coil made of metal which is wound on at least one outer periphery of the small diameter cylinder part of a translucent ceramics discharge container and is connected such that one end becomes the same potential as that of the electrode at an opposite side; an outer tube sealingly storing those members; and a pair of external connection terminals connected to the arc tube and sealingly led out from the outer tube to the outside.
