PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an optical fiber unit from eccentricity, caused by sagging of a ultraviolet curing resin due to gravity before completion of curing because a horizontal type, is used in a process for integrating coated optical fibers by the resin, in a method for manufacturing an optical fiber unit in which the flow of processes is set in the lateral direction (horizontal direction). SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a horizontal type optical fiber unit, where plural coated optical fibers 4 stranded around a central high-tensile wire 2 are sent to a coated optical fiber assembly part 8, are sent to a ultraviolet irradiating device 12, after an integrating material consisting of the ultraviolet curing resin 10 is coated thereon, and are irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cure the integrating material, the viscosity of the resin within a resin coating device of the above coated optical fiber assembly part 8 is set at 3 Pa.s or larger.
