PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display panel substrate and its production method in which electric resistance in a wiring electrode is reduced and the production process can be shortened. SOLUTION: In the display panel substrate 30, transparent conductive films 33 are formed with a desired pattern on a substrate 35 having a display region 37 and a wiring region 31. The transparent conductive films 33 form a display electrode 38 in the region 37 and the electrode 38 is covered by an overcoating film 40 or an alignment layer 41. A wiring electrode 32 is formed by covering at least a portion of the film 33 by a metallic film 34 in the region 31. During the production of the substrate 30, the film 40 or the layer 41 is used as a mask to form the metallic film on the surface of the films 33 that are not covered by the film 40 or the layer 41.
