1. A surgically implantable valve for draining fluid from one portion of the body to another for controlling hydrostatic siphon effect, said valve comprising:
a housing containing an outlet chamber, an inlet chamber, a reference pressure chamber, at least one resilient flow control membrane with multiple surfaces, at least one first surface of said resilient flow control membrane defining at least a portion of a boundary between said inlet chamber and said outlet chamber, a second surface of said resilient flow control membrane defining at least a portion of said reference pressure chamber, said inlet chamber including an inlet port, and at least one dividing wall forming at least one seat, said seat disposed adjacent said first resilient flow control membrane control surface, and said outlet chamber including an outlet port; wherein the at least one resilient flow control membrane is acted upon and moves in response to changing pressures in said inlet chamber, said outlet chamber and said reference pressure chamber, and said at least one resilient flow control membrane is configured to at least partially seal against said at least one valve seat to control flow through said at least one valve seat in response to the said changing pressures; and at least one boundary membrane connected to said housing, said at least one boundary membrane having inner and outer surfaces, said outer surface defining at least a portion of the outer surface of the surgically implantable valve, and said inner surface defining at least a portion of the reference pressure chamber, wherein said at least one boundary membrane is configured to allow for transfer of external pressure across said at least one boundary membrane into said reference pressure chamber while preventing tissues adjacent said surgically implantable valve from contacting the at least one resilient flow control membrane, wherein said at least one boundary membrane is configured to prevent tissue ingrowth into the said reference pressure chamber so as not to adversely inhibit movement of said at least one resilient flow control membrane, and wherein said at least one boundary membrane is configured with pores, said pores configured to prevent tissue ingrowth into said at least one boundary membrane. |
