PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine for preventing the delay of the pressure rise of a fuel in an accumulator due to an engine driven pump during starting the engine and permitting the early start of stratified charge combustion allowing a great ignition timing lag effective for the warm-up of a catalyzer. SOLUTION: When a fuel pressure in the accumulator at starting the engine is leas than a preset value (Step 102), the fuel is injected into only parts of cylinders to start the engine with the operation of the parts of cylinders (Step 103).
