PURPOSE: A method for controlling a retractable bumper is provided to prevent a collision with a preceding vehicle when a vehicle drives in 100km/h by retracting a bumper. CONSTITUTION: A gear position sensor senses a position of a transmitting gear. A vehicle speed is sensed by a vehicle speed sensor. A brake pedal sensor senses an actuation of a brake. Data sensed by each sensor are inputted at the controller. The controller controls two way valve based on the data. The controller discriminates whether the position of the transmitting gear sensed by the gear position sensor is an N or R(S1). When the position of the transmitting gear is not the N or R, the controller discriminates whether the vehicle speed is more than 100km/h or not(S2). If the vehicle speed is more than 100 km/h, the controller analyzes the data sensed by the brake pedal sensor, and discriminates whether the brake is activated or not(S3). If the brake is not activated, the controller operates the two-way valve to retract the bumper.
