PURPOSE: An automatic impedance matching device of a high frequency coil for a magnetic resonance image apparatus and a method thereof are provided to automatically adjust the impedance of a high frequency coil within a short time. CONSTITUTION: An oscillator(14) generates a high frequency signal. A power divider(21) divides the high frequency signal from the oscillator(14). A directional coupler(15) directs the divided high frequency signal from the power divider(21) to a high frequency coil. A demodulator(16) demodulates a signal reflected from the high frequency coil to a low frequency. A microcontroller(19) controls a low frequency band pass filter(17), an A/D converter(18), a D/A converter(20), and a matching circuit. The high frequency signal includes a sine wave signal having a predetermined amplitude. The oscillator(14) includes a crystal oscillator.
