PURPOSE: A shock absorbing apparatus of a hood for a vehicle is provided to prevent a pedestrian from being injured by buffering impact with deforming the hood momentarily in bumping the head of the pedestrian to the hood at a head-on collision. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorber of a hood is composed of an impact detecting lever(110) placed in the lower part of an outer panel(2), and deformed downward in applying impact to the lower part of the outer panel; an operating lever turning at the side of an inner panel(3), and having a latch(121) fitting the lower end of the impact detecting lever; an operating plate(130) fixed in the lower part of the outer panel; a hook(140) turned elastically in the middle of the operating plate, and fitted to the latch of the operating lever; and a tension spring(150) installed in the inner panel to pull the operating lever downward. The pedestrian is protected with deforming the hood in bumping the head of the pedestrian into the hood.
