PURPOSE: A method for separating an ATM cell and an MPS cell is provided to prevent a pure ATM cell from undergoing an unnecessary cell delay when pure ATM and MPLS cells are transmitted to a switch port in an ATM-based MPLS system, thereby reducing the load of SAR chip and CPU. CONSTITUTION: A CPU control unit(10) controls various devices such as an ATM cell tagging control unit(20). A cell transmission/reception unit(30) exchanges a cell. A cell format conversion unit(40) converts the format into the same. An inside cell transmission/reception unit(50) exchanges format converted cells. The ATM cell tagging control unit(20) controls an ATM cell bit check unit. The check unit(70) checks an ATM cell bit and then transmits cells or packets discriminated as pure ATM cells to an output terminal ICB interface.
