摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the reduction of contrast ratio. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal-polymer composite layer 2 is disposed between a pair of substrates 1a and 1b and the composite layer 2 is constituted of a polymer layer 20, a two-frequency driving liquid crystal dispersed in the polymer layer 20 and particulates 21 dispersed in the polymer layer 20. The particulates 21 having a specific functional group on their surfaces are used. The scattering effect of light can be enhanced, since the particulates 21 are mixed in the composite layer 2. The reduction of the light transmission condition can be suppressed, since the particulates 21 has the specific functional group on their surfaces. Thus, a high contrast ratio can be obtained, since the scattering effect of light can be enhanced and the reduction of the light transmission condition can be suppressed just after the application of voltage is suspended.
