PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp wide-range and precise traffic jam situations. SOLUTION: This method for grasping traffic jam situations is so constituted that devices for receiving GPS(Global Positioning System) radio wave, etc., are attached to a plurality of vehicles running on roads to find positions and azimuths of the individual vehicles, the average speed of the individual vehicles is found, and the individual vehicles inform the traveling situations to a road traffic information center, etc., by a radio wave communication means so as to grasp the wide-range situations of the traffic jam by supposing from the traveling situations of a plurality of vehicles. This method can suppose the traffic jam not by installing sensors on a road but notification of the traveling situations of the running vehicles so as to grasp the traffic jam situations of the almost all and wide-range roads with the vehicles traveling thereon at relatively low cost.
