PURPOSE: A device for stopping disk rotation in a portable disk drive is provided to mechanically stop the disk rotation, so as to reduce power consumption upon opening a door of the disk drive and preserve the performance of a spindle motor. CONSTITUTION: When a user presses an open key to unload a disk(1) from a disk drive, a door(3) is opened by a restoring force of an open spring. A door stopper arranged in a case of the disk drive is to open the door at a predetermined angle. A disk rotation stopping unit arranged at one end in the right of the door is operated to stop the disk. A friction pad(5) that is a part of the disk rotation stopping unit has elasticity. When contacting with the disk, the friction pad is bent by the elasticity thereby preventing a compulsory force from being applied to the disk. The friction pad is attached to a protuberance(3-1) integrally formed in the door and made of a rubber or a sponge. Information is not recorded in the outermost of the disk, therefore, stopping disk rotation by the elastic friction applied to a side of the outermost of the disk does not generate a damage on information of the disk.
