PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor that prevents a peak level of an image signal from excessively increasing so as to conduct stable image processing even on the occurrence of a pixel subjected to excessive shading correction when a reference peak level at the image processing is updated and traced in the unit of a prescribed level so as to conduct stable image processing. SOLUTION: The image processor is configured such that a comparator 15 compares an output of an up-down counter 14 that is reset to 0 or an offset level close to zero with an output of an analog/digital converter 9 and the comparator 15 generates a load signal and gives it to a counter 14 when the output level of the analog/digital converter 15 is greater and captures and updates quantization data. On the occurrence of a pixel in excess of a held peak value, the analog/digital converter 9 outputs a carry signal to allow the counter to count up a prescribed level and to increase the peak value. When no carry signal is produced for a prescribed time, the analog/digital converter 9 produces a down signal to allow the counter to count down the prescribed level and to decease the peak value.
