PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foundation for a dwelling and a foundation construction method, which enable a free design for the foundation for the general dwelling, increase the strength of coupling between a foundation pile and a footing, and facilitate work for constructing the foundation. SOLUTION: The foundation for the dwelling, which is constructed on ground for a building site, is formed. The foundation is composed of a pile body 1, wherein a plurality of through holes 2 are pierced into a side surface of a head part of a steel pipe driven vertically into the ground, the footing 4, which is formed in an upper part of the pile body 1, and a plurality of coupling rods 3 which are inserted into the through holes 2 of the pile body 1 and coupled to the footing 4 disposed in the upper part of the pile body 1. The through holes 2 are pierced from the pile body 1 at least in all directions. The through holes 2 crossing each other within the pile body 1 are pierced in such a manner as to be displaced respectively above and below, and the plural through holes 2 are pierced in one direction.
