PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber-based hot-melt type masking agent useful for coating a surface to be protected for a treatment such as plating, electoropolishing, anodic oxidation, etching, etc., having excellent elongation and flexibility of the coating film, easily peelable at a normal temperature and capable of reducing defects caused by penetration of a treatment solution into masking part since the masking agent has proper adhesivity to a masked material. SOLUTION: This rubber-based hot-melt type masking agent is characterized by comprising a mixture as a main component composed of 10-40 pts.wt. of a thermoplastic block type copolymer rubber, 5-30 pts.wt. of a tackifier resin and 30-70 pts.wt. of an oil. The rubber-based hot-melt type masking agent is characterized in that the thermoplastic block type copolymer rubber is a styrene- ethylene/butylene-styrene.
