PURPOSE: An intelligent switching device of a multiplex transmission system is provided to perform a switching operation by performing an interaction between control object units when a process unit is in an unmounting state or a trouble state. CONSTITUTION: A process unit(40) is used for performing a switching process. The first and the second control object units(50,60) are used for performing switching operations according to control operations of the process unit(40) or a signal interchange operation without the process unit(40). An address bus, a data bus, a control signal line, and a transmission line of a signal for indicating a trouble state and an unmounting state of the process unit(40) are installed between the process unit(40) and the first and the second control object units(50,60). The first control object unit(50) is formed with the first switching portion(52) and the first signal failure detection portion(54). The first switching portion(52) stores final switching mode information of the process unit(40) in order to decide a switching state of the first control object unit(50) by an interaction with the second control object unit(60). The first signal failure detection portion(54) detects various states of signal failure generated from the corresponding control object unit(50). The second control object unit(60) is formed with the second switching portion(62) and the second signal failure detection portion(64). The second switching portion(62) stores the final switching mode information of the process unit(40) in order to decide a switching state of the second control object unit(60) by an interaction with the first control object unit(50). The second signal failure detection portion(64) detects various states of signal failure generated from the second control object unit(60).
