PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating terminal yarn in a flat knitting machine, capable of retaining the terminal yarn produced when changing a yarn to other yarn so as to surely be inserted into a knitted fabric and smoothly carrying out the subsequent knitting action and a method for treating the terminal yarn. SOLUTION: A first brush member 40 rotating and standing to a yarn A fed out from a yarn-supplying port 13 is interposed and the yarn is cut by a yarn-breaking means 17 between the first brush member 40 and the yarn supplying port 13 and a cut terminal yarn A' is held by the first brush member 40 and reversed and transferred so as to face the cut yarn A' to a space (s) of a needle bed by further rotating the brush member and the terminal yarn A' held by the first brush member is delivered to a second brush member 46 advanced on to tip parts of the needle beds and the terminal yarn A' is moved along the tip parts of the needle beds and a knitting needle 5 is successively raised and moved to a tuck position by cam action of a carriage. Thereby, the terminal yarn A' is retained so as not to rise upward by the knitting needle 5.
