METHOD FOR APPLYING SIZING AGENT TO CARBON FIBER STRAND AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method for applying a sizing agent to a carbon fiber strand by which opening properties of the carbon fiber strand in production of a prepreg and fretting resistance thereof in a high-order processing step after the opening are simultaneously satisfied and an apparatus for applying the sizing agent. SOLUTION: This method for applying the sizing agent comprises bringing the carbon fiber strand 1 impregnated with the sizing agent into contact with the circumferential surface of a flat roller 2 while running the carbon fiber strand 1 and blowing a gas from a slit 4 toward the carbon fiber strand 1 in contact with the circumferential surface of the flat roller 2 at 15-50 m/s wind velocity of the gas.
