PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk decision device which can carry out decision of size of the disk on a tray, decision of the disk not being correctly place on the tray, and so on by one photodetecting means. SOLUTION: The decision device is provided with the photodetecting means 6 which is arranged at a disk passing position when the disk 3 placed ion the tray 1 pulled out from a player main body 2 is drawn into the player main body 2 and outputs a detection signal for indicating light transmission or no transmission by the disk. A system control circuit 11 measures a 1st elapsed time from timing that the detection signal first falls to the timing that the signal rises last by a timer circuit 13 when the disk is loaded, compares the 1st measurement elapsed time with a 1st reference elapsed time of respective sizes of the disks stored in a storage part 12, and decides that the size of the disk 3 placed on the tray 1 is the size of the disk equivalent to the coinciding 1st reference elapsed time when both elapsed times nearly coincide each other.
