PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk unit which carries out buffering suitable respectively for sequential data and repeatedly used data. SOLUTION: The CPU 170 of the optical disk unit 200, when it receives a request from a host 180 via an interface 150 to read out reproduction data, decides whether the requested reproduction data is sequential reproduction data or repeatedly used reproduction data based on address value of the requested reproduction data. When the reproduction data is sequential reproduction data, the CPU 170 controls a decoder so as to apply lookahead buffering to the reproduction data to a ring buffer of a buffer memory 160. When the reproduction data is repeatedly used reproduction data, the CPU 170 controls the decoder 140 so as to perform buffering to a cell buffer of the buffer memory 160.
