A data transmitting device and method capable of properly managing the content of data recorded on a recording medium and the reproduced information.Clips(a clip information file and a clip AV stream file)and a play list file are recorded on a recording medium or a copy source.The play list and clip files are transferred to a recording medium or a copy destination from the copy source recording medium through an IEEEE digital bus and copied.The arrival time stamp of the TP_extra_header of each source packet of the copied clip AV stream file is the same as that of the copy source.The clip information file and the play list file corresponding to the copied clip AV stream file are also copied to the copy destination.The invention can be applied to,for example,a recorder or reproducer for processing an AV stream.
