PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for storing and retrieving a file for improving efficiency by automating attribute inputting to a database and reducing trouble necessary for file registration by automatically extracting an attribute from a file and registering the attribute in an attribute database, a program for storing and retrieving a file and a recording medium with the program recorded thereon. SOLUTION: When a file is received from a registration terminal part 1, a file format discriminating device 4 discriminates a file format of the file, and a text attribute processor 5 corresponding to the file format extracts a file attribute and a test portion, makes the extracted file attribute correspond to a file name to register them in an attribute DB 6, fetches a character string for full text retrieval from the text portion of the file, and makes the character string for the full text retrieval correspond to the file name to register them in a full text retrieval DB 7.
