PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a theft detector without causing malfunctions even when a customer taking an interest in an exhibited article roughly handles it, capable of surely detecting a shoplifting action when it is performed and without impairing appearance of the exhibited article. SOLUTION: The theft detector 2 having a switch 9 with push-switch structure inside connected with an alarm via a cord 4 is screwed and completely inserted into a tripod screw hole as a unified standard of cameras, video cameras and digital cameras by using a screwdriver, the switch 9 is turned ON by depression of a switch operating part 1 on the bottom 8 of the tripod screw hole and a theft detecting function is activated. When the theft detector 2 is rotated with the screwdriver, etc., by a person to shoplift, when distance between the switch 9 and the bottom 8 of the tripod screw hole is apart for over fixed distance, the switch 9 is turned OFF and the electrically connected alarm raises an alarm. In addition, even when the cord 4 is cut off by a cutting tool, etc., the alarm similarly raises the alarm.
