PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize miniaturization of an automatic transmission by shortening a dimension in the axial direction in the automatic transmission provided with an advancing clutch and a retreating clutch, and at the same time, to provide the automatic transmission which is high in versatility such that parts or the like can be made commonly usable among different automatic transmissions even at the time of multi-kind production. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission has the first axis 11 which inputs power from an engine 2, the second/third axes 12, 13 parallel with the first axis 11, the advancing clutch 21, the retreating clutch 22, and a shifting mechanism 23 which are provided to the axes 11, 12, and 13, the first gear row 30 provided between the first axis 11 and the second axis 12, the second gear row 40 provided among the first axis 11, the second axis 12, and the third axis 13, a fastening state changing means to change the fastening state of the clutches 21 and 22, and the gear row 50 which transmits the output of the shifting mechanism 23 to driving axes 61a, 61b.
