PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low foaming high bulk density detergent composition having good solubility and detergency, and a cleaning method. SOLUTION: The solid detergent composition comprises (a) a straight-chain alkylbenzenesulfonic acid, (b) at least one surface active agent to be selected from an olefinsulfonic acid salt, a sulfofatty acid alkyl ester salt, and an alkyl sulfate, (c) a soap, (d) an oxyethylene/oxypropylene adduct type nonionic surface active agent at a ratio a/b (mass ratio) of the above component (a) to the above component (b) of 1.1 to less than 5 and, simultaneously, the above oxyethylene/oxypropylene adduct type nonionic surface active agent (d) being earlier dissolved in a cleaning fluid than the above components (a), (b), and (c).
