PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sell cup beverage that uses a transparent cup in a cup type automatic vending machine for detecting the existence/absence of a cup with an optical sensor provided at a selling opening and outputting a detection signal. SOLUTION: This cup type automatic vending machine is provided with the optical sensor 12 having a light emitting part 12A and a light receiving part 12B arranged oppositely at a selling port 10 for transferring the cup beverage and for outputting the detection signal showing the existence/absence of the cup beverage in accordance with whether or not the light receiving part 12B receives a signal from the light emitting part 12A, and a sales control part 100 for controlling sales of the cup beverage on the basis of the detection signal. When the transparent cup beverage is placed on the selling opening 10, the sales control part 100 discriminates the existence/absence of the transparent cup beverage on the basis of the detection signal when the signal from the light emitting part 12A passes through the transparent beverage and deflects.
