PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covered yarn capable of providing a stretch fabric having a thin thickness, flat feeling, excellent water-absorbing and quickly dried properties, cool feeling peculiar to linen, and dry touch feeling, and further to provide a method for producing the covered yarn. SOLUTION: This covered yarn is composed of a core yarn and a sheath yarn. The core yarn comprises a side-by-side type or an eccentric sheath-core type polyester-based conjugate fiber consisting of one component consisting essentially of a polyethylene terephthalate, and the other component consisting essentially of a polytrimethylene terephthalate. The sheath yarn is composed of a hemp fiber.
