PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely produce a high-purity bifunctional hexafluoropropene oxide (HFPO) polymer having an extremely low monofunctional HFPO polymer content by using a perfluorodicarboxylic acid fluoride which is relatively inexpensively obtainable, quantitatively forms an alcoholate with a metal fluoride in an aprotic polar solvent and contains no monofuntional impurities as a raw material. SOLUTION: This method for producing a HFPO polymer comprises mixing a perfluorodicarboxylic acid fluoride represented by general formula (1): F-C(= O)-CF2 -Am -Bn -O-CF2 -C(=O)-F (A is -(O-CF2 )-; B is -(O-CF2 -CF2 )-; m is an integer of 1-10; n is an integer of 1-20; the sequence of each repeating unit is random) with a metal fluoride in an aprotic polar solvent to prepare a solution and feeding hexafluoropropene oxide to the obtained solution.
