PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display control method which can decorate characters and color some of the characters even when an OS having simplified functions is used. SOLUTION: The method has a step S3 of displaying a plurality of character strings in a text display area 42 according to text data 24 and a step S6 of displaying images corresponding to the selected character strings one over another in the text display area 42 in response to the selection of at least one of the plurality of character strings. Consequently, even when the OS does not have a character decorating function or character coloring function, visual effects similar to those when those functions are used can be obtained. Therefore, even when a portable small-sized computer with relatively low processing capability is used to learn by, for example, educational software, learning effects similar to those when a computer with high processing capability is used can be obtained.
