PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a plasma display panel, which is capable of increasing its displaying contrast by making non-light-emission areas between lines inconspicuous. SOLUTION: In this manufacturing method of a surface discharge type plasma display panel, a surface discharge type plasma display panel is formed with a pair of substrates disposed in facing relation each other, on one side of the pair of substrates, that is on a front substrate 11, a plurality of paired displaying electrodes 41, which are disposed in parallel with one another and in correspondence with display lines, and an insulative band-like light- shielding film 48 which shields the displaying electrodes 41 from seeing-through to the other side, that is a rear substrate 21 side, and further a dielectric layer 17 for covering the paired displaying electrodes and the band-like light-shielding films are formed, respectively. On the other substrate, that is located on a rear substrate 21, a plurality of address electrodes A disposed in the direction of crossing with the display electrodes are formed. Here, after the display electrodes and the light-shielding films are formed on the front substrate, a dielectric material coating and baking workings for forming the dielectric layer 17 are repeated two times, and a baking temperature at first time is chosen lower than the softening temperature of the dielectric material.
