PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent character display tube composed by reducing the distance between a positive electrode and the other electrode installed around it to the utmost. SOLUTION: Since a projecting insulating layer 38 with a second positive electrode 34b formed on its top is present between a second positive electrode 34b and the other electrode (a first positive electrode 34a) installed around it, they are electrically insulated from each other by the insulating layer 38. Since the second electrode 34b formed on the top of the insulating layer 38 is connected to an anode-wiring 28 on a board 12 through a conductor layer 40, wiring for carrying a current to the positive electrode 34 does not need to be formed around the positive electrode 34. That is, a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) 10 composed by reducing the distance between the positive electrode 34 and the other electrode installed around it to the utmost can be provided.
