PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous vacuum carburizing furnace, which can continuously perform several carburization treatments, and can form a high concentration of carburized layer. SOLUTION: This heat treatment furnace comprises arranging a suction port 126 for vacuum suction, a heater 116, and a gas supply port 120, in carburization treatment chambers 22 and 24 of the vacuum carburizing furnace 10; heating an article W to be treated which has been inserted into the carburization treatment chambers 22 and 24, with the heater 116 under vacuum, to react the article with gas; arranging the gas cooling chambers 26 and 28 underneath the carburization treatment chambers 22 and 24, and cooling the article W with gas, which has been taken out from the carburization treatment chambers 22 and 24 downward, to allow hardening after carburization to be simultaneously performed in a continuous flow.
